About The Event
The Harlem Repertory Theatre brings back its "bold new expressionistic interpretation" of the modern musical classic by Hamilton creator Lin-Manuel Miranda, with a cast of 20 filling four performance areas and getting up-close-and-personal with the audience. Winner of four 2008 Tony Awards, including Best Musical, In the Heights captures the hopes and hustle of a tight-knit Dominican-American community with authenticity and joy thanks to the book by Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Quiara Alegría Hudes, not to mention Miranda's infectious score of vibrant hip-hop, pop and Latin music.
The environmental seating arrangement will transfix the audience as the young and energetic cast sings and dances throughout four separate performance areas in the newly renovated Tato Laviera Theatre – often a few feet away from the audience. IN THE HEIGHTS won the 2008 Tony awards for BEST MUSICAL and BEST ORIGINAL SCORE. Charles Isherwood wrote in his New York Times review: "When this musical erupts in one of its expressions of collective joy, the energy it gives off could light up the George Washington Bridge for a year or two."
