About The Event
Join The Camaraderie for a unique, fun and detailed tour of the most enchanting (and secret!) parts of our beloved Central Park - The North Woods! We will be led by the ever-passionate Fred Pflantzer, whose desire it is to share his lifetime's worth of knowledge, wonder and joy with all of those who are also inspired by The Big Apple.
Central Park is comprised of 843 wooded acres. Within those confines are hidden areas rarely seen by out-of-towners. The North Wood abounds with waterfalls, babbling brooks, ravines, deeply wooded arbors, a world-renowned bird sanctuary, a willow-shaded loch, and three formal gardens. The North Woods remains the least engineered and the most rural of all of the park’s features. On foot through dappled lanes, with bird calls echoing in our ears, we will discover Northern Central Park, an unexplored and lightly traveled revelation to both New Yorkers and visitors alike. We'll learn about Central Park’s history and the brilliant people that built it. We'll be shown incredible, sweeping views, overlooking the Harlem Meer and unobstucted views to the North and get to see reminants of the 1812 war.
After our private tour, we will head off to a wonderful ladies lunch nearby where we will dine on delicious, authentic African food at Teranga.
Some call it Senegal, others Sunugaal, and not too long ago, The Jollof Kingdom. For Co-Founder & Executive Chef of Teranga, Pierre Thiam, growing up in the rich and diverse culture of the coast of West Africa, a culinary curiosity and a reverence for tradition took hold, guiding him across the continent and beyond.
Rooted in traditional African home cooking that emphasizes African-grown ingredients, Teranga is a culinary journey into the depth, diversity, and deliciousness that the motherland has to offer.
In Senegal, “Teranga” is perhaps the most highly regarded value. Roughly translated, it means “good hospitality.” In practice, Teranga reflects how one treats a guest — with open arms and a seat around the bowl.
